What was with all the “luxury” Muppet monster bags this year? Were the fashion houses regressing and embracing childhood nightmares? Because, honestly, these furry/feathery messes give me the heebeejeebeez! Especially that awful Fendi bag. It makes me shiver and think of naked turkeys. Not a pretty thought. Certainly not luxurious.

Remember good ol’ Paulina Porizkova and her perfectly symmetrical face and ass? Well, prepare yourself, because they’re replacing Twiggy on next season’s America’s Next Top Model.  That’s good, because Twiggy bores me.

Thriftscore: Getting in step with S/S 08 in vintage shoes

Oh, thrifting, how I love thee! With me being a 18 year veteran at the art of bargain hunting and vintage clothing outings, I know where to get the deals and where to Find great vintage garments for next to nothing. Since the thrift stores I go to are So cheap(and in the Ghetto) Its easy to spend a lot and get a lot. Its also cheap to take chances with Questionable merchandise. Like this for example:

Thriftscore #1:

These black and white wingtip shoe-boots from the late 80’s. When V-thread and I set our eye’s on these, we scratched our head about them. So just for fun, I tried them on, and to our surprise, they worked! I put them on magic happened,It was as if I turned into some Rock-a-billy Cinderella. Our eyes lit up, and we both new that 5.95 was so worth it.

Thriftscore find #2:

I found these on an outing a month ago. These white perffed leather shoes have such a big personality. At a glance they are shy and humble, but just like any other “questionable” shoe, you try it on and the pizazz happens. They are so comfortable and only cost $3.95 . I know These are going to be my favorite shoes for S/S 08.

So when you are out and about thrifting, don’t second guess the shoes that strike you automatically. Go with your gut instinct, I promise, your gut has some of the best Fashion advice.

Chanel Spring 2008: The Rubik’s Cube platform heel, Hate it? or Love it?

Karl Lagerfeld really is a genius. For Spring 2008 the Chanel designer seems to have dissected a Rubik’s cube and created a platform shoe with it. For those of you born after the late 80’s, the Rubik’s cube, introduced in 1974, was the #1 (frustrating) toy for many adults and kids. I’ll be honest, I hated the damn things. The only guys who could ever solve the “mechanical puzzles” were overly smart and determined like the guy in “The Pursuit of Happiness”.

Well it looks like Mr Lagerfeld can now be added to this list. The only thing is I’m not sure how I feel about it. I mean it’s fabulous both in a heterosexual female way and a drag queen way all at the same time. I don’t like the patent leather but love the ultra-colorful bottom. I don’t like the shape of the shoe but I love the color-popped mini Chanel logo. Tell me, what do you think?

Sarah Jessica Parker’s Cheap and Boring Bitten Gets One Cute Thing

Manuel Paul may hate it, but I for one love Project Runway, and I’ll obsess if I want to. This week the guest judge was Sarah Jessica Parker, whom I do have some love for, seeing as she was in three of my all-time favorite productions: Footloose, Square Pegs and, of course, the inimitable Girls Just Want to Have Fun, but for the most part I’m pretty eh about her. I’m less than eh about her Bitten line, which I hate more than ever in all its cheap, yawny glory.

That’s why I think she should thank her lucky stars for the shot of style provided to her label by Victorya Hong, who won last week’s competition and a place in Bitten’s holiday collection. Hong’s dress is pretty cute and definitely fashion-forward when you consider the rest of the poorly conceived and poorly constructed line.

It’s just $20, but as far as I know, you can only get in Steve & Barry’s flagship Manhattan store. I have yet to see the actual thing they’re selling in the store, and I’ve heard it’s just “based” on this dress, so I’m not advocating that anyone buy it. I hope it’s a least sort of as cute as the original.
