Okay, so actually I was wrong the other day when I gave my nod of approval to the Cavalli costumes for the Spice Girls. Yuck. In the flesh, they’re a mess…fringe, glitter legging, white flowy pants. Yeah, Roberto, you lost me.

And Posh’s boobs…I feel so sorry for them.

I said the joining of forces was a match made in heaven, but you know what I should have said.

Designer Spotlight: Juun J makes us hate everything in our closets!

juun-j-threadtrend-1.jpg

When I first discovered designer Juun J’s AMAZING S/S 08′ men’s line of unisexish pieces on Totem fashion.com, it was a sweet and sour moment. I immediately fell in love, butterflies and all; at the same time I almost instantly hated every article of clothing that I own. Juun J’s eye for detail and ultra-wearable, why-didn’t-I-think-of-that reconstructed pants, jumpsuits, shirts, and shorts really inspire one to go beyond the boundaries while still keeping it classic. The designer’s basic concepts are ‘classic’ and ‘tailored’ and more specifically, he “likes to create new silhouettes and garments from an overlapping of items… silhouette to silhouette all of which dramatically conflict with each other.” This is obvious when viewing the line.

Junn J has taken a few classic trench coats, deconstructed them, and reconstructed them into jumpuits, capes, and even a kilt. He has also taken the classic brilliance of the trench and applied its elements to high-waisted pleated pants and shorts with suspenders. My favorite pieces exemplify the designers love for mixing elements. For these, he meshes classic blazers and crisp shirts with well-tailored shorts, creating luscious avant garde jumpsuits. He tops off the line with short sleeve cardigans, slim pants, parachute pockets, and pops of Teal Green.

That’s it. It’s time for a little “winter cleaning” closet overhaul. Out with the old and in with the Juun!

The Real Deal: Andrey Bartenev at Calvin Klein’s First Look Party

So, I’ve seen a few posts about last week’s Calvin Klein First Look Party and mostly they talk about how awful Julian Moore looked in that unflattering dress:

Yes, that’s a sad color for her, but I like this new direction for Calvin Klein, nonetheless.

There’s also been a lot of talk about Ashley Olsen’s look:

And yes, of course, she looks great, and I seriously want to snack on that delicious jacket…BUT, I hardly think it compares to Andrey Bartenev’s ensemble at the same party:

Now, that’s what I call going for it.  Bartenev is no part-timer, and that’s why he’s my new favorite.  Oh yeah, that’s Lisa de Kooning (daughter of Willem) standing next to him.  How appropriate.

Easily the look of the week.
