Project Runway Episode 7(avant garde/ready to wear): Kit Pistol Makes her Exit
The right team definitely won on Project Runway last night, and I was pretty glad to see Kit go since I am extremely prejudice against those who hail from Orange County, California. Sorry, I am–that place is devoid of all culture (and before you argue with me, check out the Zagat’s guide for the OC–Applebees is like the top listing.)
Though physical polar opposites, sassy Christian and jolly Chris March worked well together, creating two looks that far surpassed all the others. And they even caused Michael Kors to light up and use grand hand gestures, which is always a treat.
On the yuck side, were those smelly old bed sheet disasters from Ricky and Kit:
I feel nauseous.

Update: Ha! An hour after posting this, I got an email about Kit Pistol (why not just call yourself “Tommy Gun”?) and her debut collection, complete with this attached photo:

See I told you. This is exactly what I would expect from her. If you’re so inclined, you can check out her website, where you can buy shirts with her name emblazened across the chest ($80!). They also say Los Angeles, so I guess she moved.
Also, if you’re in the market for a $64 patent leather hair bow, she’s got ‘em.
Rachel Bilson for GQ Magazine

I’ve been trying to decide whether or not to post this, and I finally got the courage today. My goodness, is this the creepiest magazine cover ever or what? It makes me feel dirty.
Rachel Bilson is cute, so I don’t get why the brains at GQ thought this image was the one. I’m sure they took a whole bunch right? And it’s the February issue…talk about unseasonal dressing.
To me, she looks like a over-enthusiastic and deranged call girl saluting her customer, who happens to be a US Senator.
So dumb.

Kate Moss’ 34th Birthday Party. Snorsville.
We really wanted to write something about Kate Moss‘ 34th birthday, but when we saw the pictures, we were like “eh.” Even she looks like she’d rather be home sleeping–she’s even wearing her jammies. Jesus, she looks miserable, which is hard to be when you’re wasted.
Well, in her defense, her guest of honor was Kelly Osbourne, and there’s nothing exciting about that. Face paint or no face paint, feather boa or no feather boa.
All that said, our favorite former waif’s birthday “bash” is momentous for but one reason: it’s undeniable proof that coke has officially become BOR-ING. Time to throw away your baby spoons, kids.

Update: Manuel Paul and I did the math, and maybe she’s all doldrums because in catwalk years, 34 is like 75.
Kirsten Dunst For Mui Mui

Everyone’s so mean to Kirsten Dunst, but I like her and these ads. I’m a sucker for Alice in Wonderland references ever since the Tom Petty video. It never gets old

American Apparel’s New York Times Immigration Ad
Did you hear about this? In December, American Apparel took out this ad in the business section of the New York Times. In the ground-breaking ad, the company called for a “forward thinking immigration policy.”
Here are some other highlights:
It’s time to give a voice to the voiceless. Businesses are afraid to speak to the media about immigration, frightened of reprisals by government agencies. But we cannot just sit in the shadows and watch the government and politicians exploit and misrepresent this matter to advance their own careers….
Immigrants not only increase the wealth of the nation, they have contributed significantly to major scientific, medical and industrial advancements, as well as to the arts. Many of them have become great entrepreneurs too….
At what point are we going to recognize that the status quo amounts to an apartheid system? At what point will America stop living in a state of denial?
At American Apparel we support our workers. We support our community. We support Los Angeles. We support the pride of America and the American Dream.
Enough is enough.
I don’t know about you, but I think it’s great that a company would take such a strong and public stance on immigration. Especially because I agree with them. In fact, American Apparel’s treatment of their immigrant workers–paid time off, free lunches, health benefits, English classes, and proper ventilation–is the reason I look past Dov Charney’s creepy ways. Well, that and their hot clothes.
