Deee-lite’s Groove is in the heart.  We’re so harlequin right now!

And as always, here are our favorite thingies online this week:

Schmashion gets cultured, Vivienne Westwood style.

Trendinista claims that Zubab pants are making a comeback.  Ay!

Trashbag Aesthetics has  the Monkey Claw 2008 collection.

Leggings jump the shark at Fashion Binge.  Ah, Pinky Tuskadero.

Ali Michael Used to Be Skinny, and NOW Look at Her!
00040m-1.jpg

Have you heard about this? Apparently, 17-year old Ali Michael, a runway model who had a lot of success during previous fashion week seasons, can’t get work now because she gained 5 pounds. Well, that’s at least what her mother is claiming in the Wall Street Journal.

There she is above at the John Galliano show in spring 2008. And here’s she is now after slopping on the weight, at Yohji Yamamoto in Paris recently:

Yohji practically has her in a muumuu! Yeah, what a porker!

Lot’s of people agree that this skinny model thing is getting out of hand, including Nina Gaaaarcia, who thinks the models are getting skinnier and skinnier. Even the Parisians are freaking out:

“If you look at the girls, they are not beautiful like models were 20 years ago,” says Jimmy Pihet, spokesman for the Federation Française de la Couture, which oversees Paris fashion shows. “The girls are thin, they have strange faces. … At first, you look at them and you’re not sure if they’re beautiful or disgusting.”

These Crazy Shoes Need to Stop!

Okay, these dumb, impractical shoes need to stop already!  WTF? Why do we need to experiment with physical balance?  Are the designers teaching us to see thing from a new perspective?  Duh, okay we get it, we’ll change, whatever we have to do! Just let us walk on physically possible shoes.

Hey, Briton Antonio Berardi, experiment on men for once.  God!

Ossie Clark revival at London Fashion Week Fall 2008: I have mixed emotions

ossie-clark-top.jpg

OK I know this is over 2 weeks old now but it’s so fitting to Threadtrend, I had to make sure we talked about it. Besides Vogue is just now talking about it in their March 08 issue, too. The infamous Ossie Clark label was resurrected on Feb. 11th at London Fashion week under new Creative Director Avshalom Gur.

Gur has a very tough legacy to follow considering Ossie Clark was THE clothing and textile designer of the 60’s. His Maxi dresses and floral prints have been copied for decades and people still hope to score his pieces til this day. Lord knows it’s still a life goal of mine. Right now on ebay you can buy an original Ossie Clark blouse for $225 or a dress for $500.

Vintage Ossie Clark

When I saw photos from the Fall 2008 show I was…. Confused. Some pieces really excited me while others just looked like filler pieces that a Project Runway judge would call boring. Nina Gaaarcia would say “There’s not enough cohesion” and Michael Kors would say “You know, she’s like a 60’s harlot who goes from the whore house to the office and she has nothing else to put on but this Red coat”.

ossie-clark-2.jpg

Ofcourse the voluminous shear puffy dresses are my faves as well as the wide leg pants and mixed media sweaters. But the designer’s take on tailoring and suiting just doesn’t fit. I know Ossie Clark was known earlier on for the dresses and pretty florals and later added tailoring to the equation but it’s like Avshalom Gur felt the need to squeeze it all in just in-case this is the first and last Ossie Clark revival line. I think a better technique may have been to breed the iconic prints with the tailoring to create adorable floral or psychedelic-print jackets and skirts. Just my opinion. What do you guys think?

Project Runway Season 4: Is Hair the New Black?
12.jpg

Chris March was out on Project Runway tonight.  He did get to show his collection at fashion week, though, and yes, hair was a big part of the line.

Now, I’ll admit that the skirt above is actually kind of cool, but, still, I cannot abide by this human hair trend in fashion. We already saw a hair dress this season, and I’m scared this trend is going to catch on.  But there won’t be any shiny, human hair involved.

You think a cheap weave is bad? Prepare yourself if this craze hits Ross Dress for Less or if Kimora Lee Simmons gets her hands on it! Oh, how I rue the day.

America’s Next Top Model: Cycle 10, Episode 2. Some Observations

While watching ANTM tonight, this is what went through my head:

    1. That ditzy little Kimberly is actually rad! I love the way she basically told Tyra Banks where she could shove her model show. Someone had to. “It’s just not interesting.”
    2. Marvita is the new angry girl–the new Jade, Eva, and Tiffany, the model she screamed at. Sigh. It’s just a matter of time before Tyra brings her to tears at voting panel, screaming, “You gotta to find Marvita!” Sigh, again.
    3. There’s going to be a new Eastern European model every other season now, thanks to Natasha. Well, modeling is the new gymnastics for the E.E. ladies.
    4. Paulina is biaaatch. She told that girl she looked like a tranny! Zinger! Kind of a breath of cruel air after that goodie-two-shoes, Twiggy.
    5. Fatima is the first contestant that ever looked like real model.

Sorry no spacing above–WordPress was acting like a Paulina.

      Marc Jacobs Hearts Hillary Clinton
      marchillb.jpg

Jezebel reports that Marc Jacobs is selling Hillary Clinton shirts in his stores. I would certainly rather wear this than the Posh shirt he’s hawking, but that’s not an endorsement of Hillary. Really, it’s just a vote against Victoria Beckham.

Paris Fashion Week Fall 2008: Vivienne Westwood Goes Nuts, Thank God

Vivienne Westwood may be a lot of things, but she’s not boring. Her Paris Fashion Week show was definite proof of this fact. For it, she brought in a bunch of kids to doodle on her collection. According to Style.com, she told the babes all about global warming and then encouraged them to create “eco-warrior” garb.

      Sounds like Vivienne.

      Here are the results:

      Burdastyle: The New Knitting Circle

I was tipped off to this site by Christine. Etsy-affiliated, Burdastyle is a “virtual sewing circle,” complete with downloadable patterns, expert advice and tons of inspiration. There’s lots of cute stuff on this site, and there’s a forum for people to share their tips and tricks. Plus, if your a beginner, they have a Sewpedia to help you learn the lingo. It’s very lovey-dovey. And just look at the threads:

      Too bad I can’t sew.
