First of all I have to get one thing off my chest: The first 2 days of New York Fashion Week Fall 2008 are booooorrrrinnng! I’m falling asleep at the computer just trying to muster up some excitement and hoping the best is yet to come.

Even though buying my new car battery is more exciting than what I’ve seen so far, I did manage to recognize a few recurring themes amongst the collections. The greatest of these is plaid and from the looks of things, plaid may be dominating our closets just as much as, say, the V-neck Tee did in 2007.

Take a look at Y-3, Preen, Ruffian, Lacoste, and Adam’s take on the trend. While Y-3 has taken the more sporty approach, Adam and Preen chose a more romantic way to incorporate plaid with the latter creating flowing dresses and blouses out of Chiffon. Yoji Yamamoto used Red, Blue, and Yellow throughout the plaid portion of the Y-3 show in heavy tweed and flannel while Ruffian and Lacoste used Purple, Green, and Turquoise. It’s all ultra wearable and easy to mix into our wardrobes. If you already haven’t started working with plaids, you’d better start now. Think less Buffalo and more Kurt Cobain.

This DKNY Bike is Really Pissing People Off!

When I first heard that DKNY was planting these bikes around the boroughs of New York City to promote biking instead of driving, I just thought, eh, fun color, but I wasn’t impressed. I figured it was just another corporation’s attempt to pretend to be earth-conscious and probably get a tax break. I’m cynical, but this is America.

But I guess I was wrong. This is interesting! I guess these DKNY bikes are causing quite a stir. The Gothamist says these freaking bikes look a little to0 much like the white Ghost Bikes, which are put up around NYC to memorialize cyclists who’ve been killed in traffic. Times Up! and Visual Resistance are behind that cause.

Geez! Nice going DKNY. You gotta steal from dead bike riders? And also, isn’t this ironic–wouldn’t the copy cat bikes just remind people how dangerous it can be to cycle in the city? DUH.

Weird

New York Fashion Week Fall 2008 Ready to Wear: Erin Fetherson

Everyone’s fave hipster designer, Erin Fetherson, did it up in floral for her Fall 2008 Ready to Wear collection. I mostly like it, especially the wrap dress with the blue tights, but the long black one is a little too Natalie Merchant for me. Maybe I’m wrong.
