Eco-Chic Juice Box Makeover: aNew Bags

aNew Bags is my new favorite eco-chic company. Part of the burgeoning green scene, aNew Bags imports recycled bags and accessories handmade by a women’s co-op in the Philippines.

It’s a cool business model because it not only keeps these women out of sweatshops, but it also makes use of the thousands of juice boxes that get trashed on a daily basis in the country (along with banners as seen with the messenger bags above) turning them into punchy handbags, beach bags, luggage tags, yoga mat bags and coin purses like this:

I think I smell a big, huge trend.

The catalog isn’t up and running yet, but you can get prices (they are totally reasonable) by dropping them a line at info@anewbags.com. Plus, if you live in LA, you should go check them out at the Rose Bowl Flea Market this weekend at Booth 126A. I’ll be there filling out my paltry summer wardrobe with some vintage shopping, and I’ll probably pick up this beach bag, which i will use obsessively for the rest of the summer:

Check out the aNew Bags website –not all the items are up, but you can write to them for more info.
